January Goals | Expectation vs. Reality
Hi,
It’s me again with my first post of the new year, coming in hot at the tail end of January! So the thing is, we all have the best of intentions when it comes to a new year, but often times we fail. Why is that? I won’t speak for anyone else, but I am totally guilty of setting too many goals. I find myself wanting to make all the changes at the same time and it’s just not realistic. Let me start by telling y’all my lofty goals (LOL) and then I’ll get into what actually happened.
Declutter my home
Become a better plant mom
Keep up with laundry
Eat at home more than eating out/ordering out
Workout more consistently (for my sanity-endorphins y’all)
Drink a gallon of water a day
Set my good reads goal to 75 since I surpassed my goal of 50 last year
Organize my closet
Keep the house clean (most of the time)
Focus more energy on growing my business.
Ok, yeah, thats a lofty list. The problem is, I like instant gratification. I was way to general when I came up with these goals and to avoid a mental breakdown, I have decided to take them on over time.
Decluttering takes TIME. I am really proud of the progress I have made, but when you have created a life with someone you’ve been with for 15 plus years, then you throw a child into the mix…you accumulate some crap! I have gotten most of the rooms done, but now its a matter of finding the right places to donate or resell some items. I also like a lived in eclectic aesthetic so there will always be some form of happy clutter.
This one I can check off as a success! Although as I learn more about plants and gardening, its creating a whole other issue of needing ALL the plant babies! I love how plants open up our space and add a fresh relaxing atmosphere to our eclectic home decor.
I can say that I have been doing ok on keeping up with laundry. It has been a full 2 weeks now of putting it away as soon as it’s out of the dryer. I seriously have never slept better because my mind is clear when things are clean.
Work in progress….lets move on
I was that quarantine person who used her time to get in shape, but lately it has been a struggle to keep motivated so this is a work in progress as well.
HA! I got this water jug and started off strong buuuuttt we are gonna try again!
On track to succeed thanks to the Bridgerton books…
DONE!
I’d say this one is a continual work in progress, but so far so good.
Definitely a constant work in progress, but Oliver and Grace has some good things coming for 2021!
With all of this said and done, I have realized some things about myself. When my space is clean and happy, so am I. When I put my body to work and do some form of exercise, I feel more balanced. When I drink my gallon (or close to it,) my skin is hydrated and happy. Reading is my way to relax and unwind. When things go well with my business, obviously that too makes me happy. It all works hand in hand. Instead of having to have everything on this list done to perfection, a little work towards each of these goals help to create balance in my life. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
