What a Girl Wants…

Mother’s Day is upon us! I am not super into overly marketed holidays. In my opinion, Mother’s Day should be every day if you are in fact a mother, or have a good relationship with your mother or mother figure. It’s so important to celebrate the mundane aspects of motherhood and honor those strong mothers who helped shape us! Here I go (already digressing)….

In today’s edition of Life According to Fallon, where I sometimes write my opinions, I’ll share a few experiences that Mom would appreciate in lieu of more traditional Mother’s Day gifts.

We are so in love with this butterfly headboard from Hotel ZaZa in Houston, Tx!

  1. An overnight hotel stay….ALONE sorry spouses and significant others, alone time is crucial as a mom. I know I personally feel like motherhood has taken quite a few brain cells and scrambled them up. We are always feeling busy and often overwhelmed. A hotel stay would definitely be a nice gift option. Bonus points if the hotel has a spa (wink wink).

  2. Okay, so a boujie hotel and spa may not be in your budget, especially if you have multiple (small) children. This is where creativity is key. Create a spa hotel like environment at home. Fold and put away the laundry (she really doesn’t want to see it or think about it!), light some candles, run a lavishly scented bath with oils and epsom salts. Here is the key part to this at home spa scenario… Once you show her to her suite, leave her alone. Take the kids out of the house for a few hours and just let her be. It sounds so simple, but most moms feel guilty even thinking about having uninterrupted time let alone asking for it! (Not me though :))

  3. Do not underestimate the power of a well thought out date night. No, we don’t want any part in making plans. Just make the reservation, and tell us what time to be ready. Taking even one simple task off our plate is more than helpful.

  4. At home spa gift basket (if going to a spa is not something in your budget). Hit up that section of walgreens or target with the sheet masks and loofahs… If you have no clue where to start, lavender, eucalyptus and lemongrass are all very soothing scents (assuming she doesn’t have any allergies).

  5. Flowers… Yes, we all know that we can buy our own, thanks Miley, but it’s the thought that counts. Is your bae a plant mom too? Get a cool plant instead of a more traditional bouquet.

  6. Coordinate with her besties (keep it to the core group, a party can easily turn stressful) and arrange for a girls night. Bonus points if the besties are also moms in need of a little break. Bonus Bonus points if you coordinate with their significant others and manage to keep it a surprise!

  7. A coupon book full of redeemable certificates would be a hit! Homemade coupons may be a little cheesy, but it is also a cute idea that will get the kids involved. Some fun coupon ideas: folding laundry, doing the dishes, any chore that she usually does. Make a coupon for it so she can get a…say it with me…”Break”

I hope that this list gets the ideas flowing. Feel free to accidentally send your partner a screenshot or forward the email to them!
