Valentine's Schmalentine's

3. Set yourself up for happiness. This can be as simple as prepping lunch the night before in order to make your morning routine easier. I personally have a hard time sticking to this one which causes me to make poor choices for lunch. Then I start to feel bad about those choices and I can be really hard on myself. Then I have to revert back to my own list and take a deep breath! (More on this subject in the future...)

4. Compliment someone. Spreading love and making people feel good about themselves goes such a long way. This one is something I often try to do when I find myself wanting to be petty or judgy. Find something nice about them, you don't even have to tell it to their face, just change your mind frame. If it's someone who really has been getting under my skin, I try for 3 nice things to challenge myself.

5. Just be nice. I'm not a super smiley person when I'm not engaged in a conversation or laughing. (hello RBF) But I promise I'm nice! I've definitely heard "Oh wow, you're nicer than I expected" on more than one occasion, and instead of letting this hurt my feelings, I laughed. People's pre conceived notions often limit their perceptions and we are all guilty of this in one way or another. (Social anxiety anyone?)

Ok, so it's come and gone. Now what? Do we stop loving each other? No... so why place so much importance on just one day. This is just my humble opinion, but if we took a little more time to love each day, we'd be in pretty good shape. I'm going to list a few rules that I try my best to follow. These are not in any way a professional opinion, and it is totally ok if you think I'm crazy, just hear me out.

1. Do something each day Just for yourself. As long as this doesn't involve hurting others in any way, whats the harm? I personally use this one in the form of a luxurious bubble bath after my son has gone to bed or taking time to do some reading. I have a lofty goal on Good Reads this year so every sentence counts!

2. Forgive yourself for not being perfect. This one is a bit trickier, but it is probably the most important rule in self love. It sounds so simple, but whatever it is that worries you, just let it go.

Unofficial rule # 6 is ice cream...

Ok, I'll get off my soap box, but just think about it ok?
